脑(脊)膜   nǎo(jǐ)mó   เยื่อหุ้มสมอง(และไขสันหลัง)  Meninges

เยื่อหุ้มสมอง (และไขสันหลัง)  เป็นเนื้อเยื่อส่วนที่ห่อหุ้มสมองและไขสันหลัง รวมไปถึงเป็นที่อยู่ของระบบน้ำไขสันหลัง 

เยื่อหุ้มสมอง มี 3 ชั้น คือ

• ชั้นนอกสุดที่อยู่ติดกับกะโหลกและกระดูกสันหลัง เรียกว่า Dura mater หรือเรียกสั้นๆว่า Dura 
• ชั้นกลาง เรียกว่า Arachnoid mater หรือเรียกสั้นๆว่า Arachnoid และ
• ชั้นในสุดที่ติดกับสมองและไขสันหลัง เรียกว่า Pia mater หรือเรียกสั้นๆว่า Pia 

      ทั้งนี้ระหว่างชั้นต่างๆ ของเยื่อหุ้มสมองจะมีช่องว่าง ที่ในภาวะปกติจะไม่เห็นเป็นช่องว่างหรือช่องปิด โดยจะเป็นช่องว่างที่เกิดเลือดออกและมีเลือดขังเมื่อมีอุบัติเหตุที่สมอง หรือเมื่อมีภาวะเลือดออกในสมอง ซึ่งก่อให้เกิดอาการผิดปกติทางสมองขึ้นได้อย่างรุนแรง เช่น อาการปวดศีรษะร้ายแรง และ/หรือ ภาวะสมองบวม เป็นต้น โดยช่องว่างที่อยู่ระหว่างเยื่อหุ้มสมองชั้นนอกสุดและ เยื่อหุ้มสมองชั้นกลางเรียกว่า “ช่องใต้เยื่อหุ้มสมองซัพดูรัล 

    ส่วนช่องระหว่างชั้น เยื่อหุ้มสมองชั้นกลางกับชั้นเยื่อหุ้มสมองชั้นในสุดเรียกว่า “ช่องใต้เยื่อหุ้มสมองซูบารัชนอยด์” ซึ่งเมื่อมีเลือดออกระหว่างชั้นต่างๆช่องว่างเหล่านี้ จัดเป็นภาวะฉุกเฉินที่ต้องรีบไปโรงพยาบาลทันที

       脑室 โพรงสมอง เป็นอวัยวะที่สำคัญ เป็นโพรงตรงกลางสมอง โดยวางฝังตัวอยู่ในเนื้อสมองใหญ่ (大脑dànǎo,Eng: Cerebrum) เป็นแหล่งผลิตและกักเก็บน้ำชนิดพิเศษในสมองที่ถูกเรียกกันว่า “น้ำไขสันหลัง” (脑脊液nǎojǐyè, Eng: cerebrospinal fluid :CSF)

         โพรงสมองจะมี 4 โพรง ได้แก่โพรงสมองด้านข้าง 2 โพรง (ซ้าย 1 โพรง ขวา 1 โพรง) โพรงสมองที่ 3 ในไดเอนเซฟาลอน และโพรงสมองที่ 4 ในสมองส่วนหลัง ส่วนล่างจะต่อเนื่องกับช่องกลางของไขสันหลัง ของเหลวภายในระบบโพรงสมองและช่องใต้เยื่อหุ้มสมองเรียกว่าน้ำหล่อสมองไขสันหลัง (CSF) น้ำหล่อสมองไขสันหลังผลิตขึ้นโดยเซลล์เยื่อบุผิวเฉพาะทางของปมประสาทโครอยด์ภายในระบบโพรงสมอง หลังจากไหลเวียนผ่านระบบโพรงสมองแล้ว เซลล์เหล่านี้จะไหลเวียนกลับผ่านเนื้อเยื่อเยื่อหุ้มสมอง

โพรงสมองที่ 4: อยู่ในสมองส่วนหลัง

Fourth ventricle: The fourth ventricle in the hindbrain

      โดยในโพรงสมองจะสร้าง “น้ำไขสันหลัง” ผู้รู้หรือนักวิชาการบางท่านจะเรียกว่า

 “น้ำหล่อสมองและไขสันหลัง” (脑脊液nǎojǐyè, Eng: Cerebrospinal fluid :CSF) โดย น้ำไขสันหลังจะไหลออกไปหมุนเวียนหล่อเลี้ยงรอบๆ สมองและไขสันหลัง ทำหน้าที่เหมือนเบาะรองที่ช่วยปกป้องสมองและไขสันหลังจากการกระแทก หรือการบาดเจ็บอย่างกะทันหัน นอกจากนี้ น้ำไขสันหลังยังช่วยขจัดของเสีย ส่งสารอาหารให้สมองและไขสันหลัง และช่วยให้ระบบประสาทส่วนกลางทำงานได้อย่างถูกต้อง

   หลอดเลือดสมอง ประกอบด้วยหลอดเลือดแดง และ หลอดเลือดดำ ซึ่งทำหน้าที่รับส่งสารอาหาร ออกซิเจน และ ของเสีย
